Netball New Zealand is delighted to announce that Amelia Walmsley has been appointed captain of the New Zealand Under 21 team, with Khanye’Lii Munro-Nonoa confirmed as vice-captain.

The leadership announcement follows the team’s recent training camp, where Walmsley’s appointment was unanimously endorsed by her teammates.

NZU21 head coach Julie Seymour said Walmsley was the ideal choice to lead the side at the upcoming Netball World Youth Cup.

“Amelia was truly honoured and thrilled to accept the captaincy – in fact, we both had goosebumps during the conversation,” Seymour said. “It has been fantastic to have her in our environment recently. She has brought not only her positivity and professionalism, but also the invaluable experience she has gained in both the ANZ Premiership and with the Silver Ferns. She has already proven to be a real asset to this group.

“This is such an exciting time for the NZU21s. Amelia leads with maturity beyond her years – she sets high standards, is a natural communicator, and has the respect of her teammates. Having worn the black dress already with the Silver Ferns, she knows what it takes at the elite level and is well placed to guide this group as we prepare for the Netball World Youth Cup.

“Khanye’Lii also has fantastic leadership qualities and will be a strong support for Amelia. Together, they bring balance, inspiration, and a strong voice for the team.”

Walmsley said she was humbled to be entrusted with the role.

"It’s such an honour to be named captain of this amazing group,” Walmsley said.

“The NZU21s have such a proud history, and to be trusted with this role means a lot. This group is incredibly special. The talent, energy, and potential across the team is unreal. I feel very grateful to lead alongside Khanye; she’s awesome, and I know we’ll make a great team together, especially with such an amazing group of athletes and management around us. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together in Gibraltar as we proudly represent New Zealand."

The NZU21 team will hold one final preparation camp before departing for the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 in Gibraltar, scheduled for 19–28 September.
